For those of you who don’t know of Max Tannone, Max is a DJ and producer of hip-hop beats and dance music based out of New York City. In January 2009, Max released Jaydiohead, a remix project featuring Jay-Z lyrics coupled with Radiohead instrumentals. The album generated great acclaim and was featured on Last Call with Carson Daly.

At the beginning of April 2010, Max released his newest project Mos Dub. This fresh remix features Mos Def lyrics laid over classic dub reggae tracks. Definitely a good album to listen to while kickin’ it on a warm spring day. Mos Dub is available to download for free at http://mosdub.com/. The span of six years between Till Death Do Us Part and Rise Up marks Cypress Hill’s longest gap between studio albums in their career. The group commenced work on the record in 2005, but had not entered studio work until 2008.^[5] The writing and recording process spanned four years and a number of recording studios and was finished in 2009.

Rise Up was delayed several times before its release. Originally scheduled to be released in 2006, it was later postponed to March 23, 2010 (exactly six years since the release of their last album), then again to April 6. The album’s release date was finally set for April 20, 2010.

In addition to the group’s main producer DJ Muggs, other producers include B-Real, Mike Shinoda, Jim Jonsin, Pete Rock & DJ Khalil. Featured guests include Daron Malakian of System of a Down, Pitbull, Everlast, Evidence, Young De, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, and Marc Anthony. Ill Bill, Apathy, DJ Premier and Slash were also featured as guests but never made the final cut.

The album’s introduction single, “It Ain’t Nothin’” has been released as a free download from the group’s official website with a music video by Matt Alonzo. “Rise Up”, with Tom Morello, is the second single and also the theme song for WWE Elimination Chamber 2010.

West Coast Hip-Hop website DUBCNN scored the album four out of five in their early review, with Conan Milne writing, This set offers a rallying, unapologetic Cypress Hill, indulging in familiar subject matter while continuing to challenge their existing sound.^[8]

In another early review, Scottish magazine The Skinny offered a largely positive 3 stars (out of 5), noting that the album appears “less playful than its predecessor (2004’s Clash-sampling Till Death Do Us Part) but surprisingly more focused – given Muggs’ notable absence from the producer’s chair – [The Hill] source inspired collaborations with Pete Rock, Jim Jonsin and Marc Anthony to reinforce their timeless agenda.”

On Thursday, April 29th, Mike Posner is headed to Iowa City and Live Weekend wants to let you in on the action. While Mike works toward graduation, he is touring every weekend, and getting ready for his summer long Van’s Warped Tour debut. Who knows what will happen with Mike Posner from here on out – catch him on his final college stop of the season in Iowa City at The Blue Moose Tap House. While his first CD posited it was only “A Matter of Time” until his buzz took off, on this offering, he makes it clear he has “One Foot Out The Door” into the stratosphere. Featuring guest appearances from Kid CuDi, Bun B, Big Sean, GLC, 3Oh!3, Freddie Gibbs and XV, “One Foot Out The Door” is sure to top best of 2010 lists.

SCOPE Productions is excited to announce that Girl Talk and Wale will be performing live in the IMU Main Lounge on Tuesday May 4 at 8:00 PM.

Pittsburgh artist Gregg Gillis (aka Girl Talk) has meticulously created music from samples for over eight years. Gillis broke into the national scene with Night Ripper in 2006, featuring dance-able mixes from varying genres, often including dozens of audio sources in a stream of juxtaposed hooks. Rolling Stone, SPIN, Blender, Pitchfork, and Beck include Night Ripper in their best albums of 2006 lists. Gillis has played over 200 shows in the past few years, and sold out every show on his 2007 North American tour. His latest album, Feed the Animals, is the next step of his sonic evolution and best represents Girl Talk’s notorious party-infested live shows.

Wale, the self-proclaimed “Ambassador of Rap for the Capital”, is an American hip-hop artist from Washington, D.C. He became locally recognized in 2006 and recorded music for regional audiences by tirelessly putting out mix tapes. In 2008, Wale signed with Interscope Records. His album, Attention Deficit, which was released in 2009 and debuted at number 21 on the charts, showcases the singles “Chillin” featuring Lady Gaga, “Pretty Girls” featuring Gucci Mane, and “World Tour”.

Tickets for the concert go on sale at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 5^th and can be purchased at University of Iowa Box Office, located in the IMU, and all other Ticketmaster locations. Tickets will be $26.50 for students and $31.50 for the general public.

This is nothing new, it’s another ‘Best of, So far’ mixtape. Note that I didn’t include any tracks from Wale’s album ‘Attention Deficit’ for 2 reasons, firstly, I had a hard enough time narrowing the tracks down and secondly, because if you like his music, you should buy the album. This mixtape is actually 40 tracks because I felt it was the best way to do Wale justice. Also, I couldn’t include the original song ‘Nike Boot’ because it’s on itunes but you can get a taste of the beat/hook in the song “The Cliche Lil’ Wayne Feature” which is basically a remix of Nike Boots. SCOPE Productions and KRUI have the pleasure of announcing that THE BLACK KEYS will be performing at the IMU Main Lounge, on Thursday, April 8th at 8:00 PM.

The Black Keys, consisting of vocalist and guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney, possess a magical blend of traditional blues and psychedelic sound that creates concise soulful rock.

They released their first album, The Big Come Up, in 2002, followed by Thickfreakness in 2003, Rubber Factory in 2004, and Magic Potion in 2006. With each of The Black Keys’ album releases, the group achieved increasing critical acclaim and commercial recognition. The song “Set You Free” was included on the soundtrack of the 2003 movie School of Rock, “The Desperate Man’” was used in a 2006 Victoria’s Secret commercial featuring Heidi Klum, and “Your Touch” was featured in an episode of HBO’s ‘Entourage’. Time Magazine also named them one of the 10 Best Acts of 2003.

The band’s latest album, Attack and Release, was released in April of 2008 and was produced by Danger Mouse, who has worked notable artists such as The Gorillaz and Gnarls Barkley. Attack and Release debuted at number 14 on the Billboard Top 200, and includes the hits “Strange Times” and “Psychotic Girl”. In addition, the Black Keys were featured on the 2009 album Blakroc, a hybrid rock and hip-hop album featuring contributions from artists such as Jim Jones, Mos Def, and Ludacris.

Archer is a animated comedy: it is like the Simpsons & 007 had sex: great; I guess.  Really though, this is a excellent show.  If you like the Fox Sunday night line-up and/or Adult Swim on Comedy Central –  you should definitely watch this: at least the pilot, you fucker.  Anyways, this is only JB speakin’ (not Scott P.) and I say ‘Holler, hollah, holluh…’
